چکیده
INTRODUCTION This paper is headed "The Sampling Problem. . . "because it deals with the type of phenomenawhich are observedwhen we try to estimate the number of organisms in a population or community. Often the pattern in space is so complex that difficulties are met in making such an estimate. The appropriate statistical methods are dealt with in text-books, but the fundamental reasons behind these problems are not so well understood as yet.

Comparative Feeding Ecology of Bull Sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) in the Coastal Waters of the Southwest Indian Ocean Inferred from Stable Isotope Analysis
As apex predators, sharks play an important role shaping their respective marine communities through predation and associated risk effects. Understanding the predatory dynamics of sharks within communities is, therefore, necessary to establish effective ecologically based conservation strategies. We employed non-lethal sampling methods to investigate the feeding ecology of bull sharks (Carcharh...

The discovery of marine genetic resources has led to increase of the number of international maritime patent claims .Given the unique characteristics of these organisms, the genetic resources derived from these organisms have great potential in the medical field and for research and development in the fields of antioxidants, fungal treatments, AIDS, cancer, tuberculosis, malaria And antibiotics...
متن کاملReference Values for Serum Lipid Profiles in Iranian Adults: A Spline-Based Quantile Regression Method
Background: Reference measurements are used to screen for abnormal blood lipids. The problem is that these reference values obtained in one population cannot be effective for another population. This study aimed to determine the reference values for blood lipids profiles in the population aged 25-64 years in Yazd. Methods: This descriptive study was based on the data of Yazd Health Study (YaHS...
متن کاملThe study of seaweeds biomass from intertidal rocky shores of Qeshm Island, Persian Gulf
Rocky shores are one of the most important habitats of marine environment in coastal areas. They host marine organisms including seaweeds because of existence of strong and stable substrate for their growths. Intertidal rocky shores are a prominent feature on coastal areas of Qeshm Island located at the northern part of Strait of Hormuz. In order to study biomass of seaweeds on rocky intertidal...
متن کاملEstimates of Marine Debris Accumulation on Beaches Are Strongly Affected by the Temporal Scale of Sampling
Marine debris is a global issue with impacts on marine organisms, ecological processes, aesthetics and economies. Consequently, there is increasing interest in quantifying the scale of the problem. Accumulation rates of debris on beaches have been advocated as a useful proxy for at-sea debris loads. However, here we show that past studies may have vastly underestimated the quantity of available...
